PARENTAL REMINDERS!!!

Please! Please!
Make sure that all phone numbers for immediate contact if your child is ill, etc., are CURRENT. This is important information for us to have in our records! If there are changes, please contact the Office as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you arrive after the gate is closed in the AM, legally you are responsible to walk your child to the Office and sign your child in. Your child must have a late slip in order to enter class. Sending your child directly to class or into the Office alone is unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this policy.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on the afternoons of Thursday, May 27 and Friday, May 28. Sign-up will occur at drop-off and pick-up.

Change in Kindergarten Program for 2010-11

As you have learned from all forms of media, the State of Arizona, as many other states in the nation, currently is experiencing a financial shortfall of epic proportions. In an attempt to address this economic crisis, the state has made severe cuts in the Education budget. One of these cuts eliminates the funding of full-day kindergarten programs. Therefore, charter schools must determine how to fund their own individual programs.

The Center for Creative Education will continue to serve the community by providing a tuition-free half-day morning kindergarten. A full-day program will be offered requiring certain commitments on the part of parents/guardians. In order to enroll children in a full-day program, parents will be asked to volunteer service to the school one hour per month (the specifics of which will be determined at a later date). Understanding that parents may not be able to commit this amount of time, we are offering the option of contributing a tax-deductible donation of nine hundred dollars ($900.00) payable by August 1.

Considering the economic situation, we hope that this determination is beneficial to all.

A Calendar Change Wednesday,April 28—There will be NO school!!!

Arizona Dept of Education has informed us that due to the State of Emergency called for Yavapai County in February (on the day school was cancelled due to weather) we are not required to “make-up” that day in our calendar. Since we added a day on 2/5 unnecessarily, we are now subtracting that day. Soooo-school WILL NOT BE SESSION on Wednesday, April 28.

URGENT REQUEST FROM THE OFFICE!!!

We are beginning a unit on Van Gogh. We will paint in impasto style as did Van Gogh. (If you are interested in knowing what this is, be sure to ask your child!) We are also continuing our study of our bodies and discovering the digestive system. Two children in class are teaching us numbers in Portuguese and Greek. In preparation for spring, we will begin planting.

Supplies Needed

The school year is half over and we are asking for help again. We have truly appreciated your past generosity. If you can, please help by contributing:
• #2 yellow pencils with erasers (please, not Office Max brand!!)
• paper towels
• Post-It notes
• Toilet paper

AZ Tax Credit & Sales Tax Increase

AZ Tax Credit
We can accept partial payment during 2010, in addition to a one-time payment before December 31, 2010. Current information from the State of AZ indicates that this program will continue.

Sales Tax Increase
We encourage you to vote for Prop 100 which, if passed, would institute the sales tax increase for the benefit of education. The passage of this referendum is very important for school funding.

Grandparents’ Day

It was wonderful to see so many visitors on Grandparents’ Day. We hope that all enjoyed themselves. The children were so excited that you
came!

KUDOS to CCE

Kathy Swope, the nurse from Yavapai County Educational services who did the vision and hearing screenings for us, was very impressed with our community here at CCE. She said that she has visited many other Montessori schools in the area and found ours to be the most welcoming, cooperative, organized and peaceful. It is good to know that the values we share are appreciated by others when they visit our environment.
